Opinion/Proof Notes
This strategy helps students learn to develop an opinion, and support it through evidence from a text.
The students read an assigned chapter or book.
The students develop an opinion about a character from the text. The opinion is written down in the left-hand column.
- The students write supporting evidence for their opinion in the right-hand column. The evidence must be derived from the text along with the page number for reference.
- The students share their opinion/proof notes with the class. Extension: The students may use their opinion/proof notes to develop a persuasive paper.
